Volunteer roles available

  • Animal Diet Preparation Diet preparation plays a crucial role in safeguarding the health and well-being of the animals. Tasks range from sorting frozen rodents for our birds of prey to slicing sweet potatoes to suit the preferences our porcupine. Volunteers must be prepared to stand for extended periods of time and handle unusual textures and potent odors.
  • Corporate or Groups Group volunteer opportunities at the zoo provide a unique and fulfilling way for businesses to engage with their community and make a meaningful impact on wildlife conservation. By partnering with Alameda Park Zoo, businesses can strengthen their social responsibility efforts while participating in the zoo's mission to protect and preserve our planet's diverse ecosystems.
  • Docent/Education Ambassador
  • Special Events The zoo hosts several special events throughout the year. Volunteer opportunities may include: event set-up and preparation, guest interaction, managing entry gate, directing flow of traffic, monitoring animal exhibits, and cleanup and breakdown.

  • All volunteers are asked to contribute a minimum of 6 hours each month. 
  • There is no animal handling or direct animal contact in any of our volunteer roles.
