Goat Grazing

Goats to the Rescue! Alamogordo's New Green Initiative

Alamogordo Parks & Recreation and the Public Works Departments are thrilled to announce the launch of an exciting new green initiative: Goat Grazing for weed mitigation!

We've partnered with Naturally Balanced Farms to bring a herd of hardworking, four-legged landscapers to town. These amazing goats will be tackling tough weeds in ditches and drainage basins across Alamogordo, starting with the 16th Street Ditch! This eco-friendly approach reduces the need for chemicals and heavy machinery, making our maintenance process more environmentally friendly and sustainable.

You might be hearing some unexpected "baaaaas" in the area, and now you know why! The Parks & Recreation Department is collaborating with the Public Works Department on this project to test an innovative approach to managing vegetation.

Want to See the Goats in Action?

Naturally Balanced Farms will be on-site and will have some goats available for educational purposes and viewing! Come by and see our new co-workers on their lunch break!

We are excited about this pilot project and appreciate the community's support as we explore new, natural solutions for keeping Alamogordo beautiful.
